Little Keiva Leigh's

Keiva Leigh

Keiva Leigh (pronounced: Key-va-lay), aka: Fazzie, Fluffa, Floof, was my border collie/german sheperd mix dog friend for 13 1/2 years. I got her when she was just 2 months old and saw her through to her final breath.

She was a great dog who absolutely loved to swim, play fetch, tear my stuffed animals apart, and of course cuddle. Her special way of giving kisses was not to lick your face all over in an undignified way- but rather, she would turn her head and offer up her cheek to you-- so you could plant a kiss on her. She loved all the foods dogs love, but had an unusual afffinity for bananas and red licorice. I've never met such an emotional dog as she was, she would pout if she didn't get her way... or get distressed and run to comfort me if I was sad.

She didn't always like other dogs, but did share the house with my other dog Beldairen, and was most patient with my cockatiel Christopher.

In her last days, she was quite crippled with arthritis-- but she always kept a smile on her face. We loved her very much and she will be dearly missed. My hope is now she is somewhere, fully restored to her younger self, running, and jumping and swimming in the warm sunshine.

On the internet there are many excellent sites to assist you during this awful time. One that I highly recommend is http://www.petloss.com. It is a gentle and helpful site. There are some wonderful stories, healing poetry, links, all to help you come to terms with what has happened; to help you remember your little friend and to help you deal with the pain. Remember grief is like a thief in the night and is no respecter of time or place or occasion it can floor you when least expected.
