Has Blanche's had any Babies?
Unfortunately not. This is not from a lack of trying on her part. She laid lots of eggs in all but needs a mate. The eggs were not fertile.
How did Blanche come to live here?
I went to Durban Pets. I saw this white bird and did not know even what it was but took an instant fancy to her and the business like way she struggled to get free of the guys hands. I asked him what it was and was told it is a hand reared Cockatiel. Talk about love at first site.
I just had to have her I asked how much he wanted. R 75 for her and that what was all I had in my in my pocket. We did a trade money for bird. What makes Blanche so Special?
She is the bright and knows her name if you call Blanche she always answers with her unique little peep.
The term Madam applies to Blanche. She is the Madam of my house and my life. If you are in any doubt she is the Boss here. I love her dearly she is very special to me.
Blanche correctly associates the phrase " I love you " with affection. Which is a double bonus for me.
Unlike most Cockatiels she is a snuggle and cuddle artist. She just loves a good snuggle and cuddle. Personal Tricks?
My favourite trick with her is to get her to "Do a dip for daddy" she dips to the side in exchange she gets a kiss and I get my nose nibbled afterwards.
I often catch the unsuspecting visitor by telling Blanche who is perched on my finger to “Sit still and look pretty” she very obligingly sits still and looks pretty and the the visitor will think she is being good.
She if I am lucky will even blink her eyelids for me.
Morning Routines
Blanche is the one to wake me up every morning she calls me from her perch which is next to my bed with her you wake up now squeal and if I ignore her she calls me for attention and if all else fails she will fly to my bed. She will sit on my pillow or on the side of my bed and wait for me to stir while sorting out her feathers.
If all else fails she will peck at my ear and call me "Jackum" she them goes on to say "Jackum, I love you.". Which is a delight for me.
